Why choose a certified contractor? Only about 5% of roofing contractors are manufacturer certified. What are the advantages of working with a Certified Contractor?
- Quality Assurance: Manufacturer certification indicates that the contractor has met specific requirements set by the manufacturer, ensuring a certain level of quality in their workmanship and materials.
- Expertise: Manufacturer certified contractors typically receive training directly from GAF, allowing them to stay updated on the latest techniques, products, and best practices in the roofing industry.
- Warranty Coverage: Some roofing manufacturers products come with enhanced warranty coverage when installed by a certified contractor. This can provide added peace of mind knowing that your roof is protected against manufacturing defects and certain installation errors.
- Access to Premium Products: Certified contractors may have access to a wider range of premium roofing products. This can potentially result in a better roofing solution for your home.
- Professionalism: Manufacturer certification often signifies a commitment to professionalism and customer satisfaction. Certified contractors are typically held to high standards of conduct and customer service.
What is the warranty differences?
The standard manufacturer warranty is often described as a lifetime warranty, but what does “lifetime warranty” really mean? Essentially, it signifies that the manufacturer designs the product to last for a specific duration in a particular region. If, according to the manufacturer’s testing, the product is expected to endure for 50 years, then 50 years is considered the lifetime of that product. Therefore, “lifetime” in this context translates to 50 years.
The standard warranty coverage comprises two periods: prorated and non-prorated. Typically, the initial 10 years constitute the non-prorated period of the roof warranty, providing the most comprehensive protection. During this phase, the coverage usually encompasses 100% of the shingle, including labor and materials required for addressing a failed roof.
After the initial 10 years, labor and non-manufacturer materials cease to be covered. However, the manufacturer’s shingle remains covered, albeit at a prorated rate. This proration involves deducting 1/600 of the shingle cost every month for 50 years.
By engaging a certified contractor, you ensure that both materials and labor, as well as non-manufacturer produced materials, are covered for the entire lifetime of the roof, without proration. This offers superior financial protection for your roofing investment.
